UFCW Wins Support at Ohio AFL-CIO Convention
The 35th Biennial Ohio AFL-CIO Convention was held in Columbus from September 22-23, 2026. The convention brought together over 400 delegates and guests from across Ohio’s labor movement to address vital issues facing workers in the state.
The United Food & Commercial Workers Union, Locals 1059 and 75 are part of that coalition. One method unions can use to highlight important goals for the federation is to support resolutions that will guide the Ohio AFL-CIO in their work through the next convention. UFCW Locals 1059 and 75 proposed two such resolutions to the body of assembled union delegates at the convention: A resolution opposing electronic shelf labels and surveillance pricing as well as a resolution opposing increased food processing line speeds to protect worker and food safety.
President Nichols rose to speak in favor of the resolution to “support legislative efforts to prevent surveillance pricing” and “support efforts to preserve and protect grocery and retail jobs.” The assembled delegates voted unanimously to support the resolution.
Secretary-Treasurer Kaseman rose to speak in support of the resolution to “advocate for federal, state, and local policies that protect the integrity of the nation’s food supply and ensure that food processing workers can perform their jobs safely and with dignity.” The convention delegates voted unanimously to support the resolution.
